01 · The problem
High-risk workers and vulnerable individuals need instant, sometimes silent, emergency alerting that works without touching the phone — and existing apps don't cover hands-free triggers or community escalation.
02 · What I built
A configurable trigger-to-action system: 3× volume-press, silent SOS, panic button, and a custom fall-detection algorithm fusing accelerometer, gyroscope, and ambient-light data via native Kotlin bridged to Flutter. Background SMS with live GPS, automatic emergency calls, BLE alert broadcasting to nearby devices, and a community verification flow that escalates confirmed alerts to security personnel.
03 · The impact
Phase 1 delivered to the client for market testing and real-world trials, covering all four trigger types and four action types — with WorkManager keeping detection alive even when the app isn't in the foreground.
What I did
- Built a configurable security app with four emergency trigger types mapped to user-defined response actions.
- Wrote native Kotlin for sensor access (accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light) and volume-button interception, bridged to Flutter via platform channels.
- Designed a multi-sensor fall-detection algorithm minimizing false positives while staying sensitive to genuine falls.
- Implemented silent emergency operations: background SMS with live GPS to multiple contacts and automatic background calls.
- Built BLE alert broadcasting to nearby devices with a community verification and escalation system (3+ confirmations → security dashboard).
- Used WorkManager for persistent background monitoring and reliable emergency execution.
